  • Can I participate in virtual tournaments if I am fishing out of state?
    No, all tournaments must be fished on bodies of water within the state of MN and must be public bodies of water open to everyone.
  • Are the fish entered by weight or length?
    Fish are entered into the fish donkey app by length. It is recommended to use the measuring board given to you by the fishing team.
  • What SabreStorm events do team members have an opportunity to participate in?
    There are basically two types of events to participate in, team events and virtual events. Team events are typically on a predetermined body of water and each member fishes with another team member along with a boat captain. Virtual events can be fished on any body of public water within the state and are fished individually or with any other two participants. The other two members can be brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles or any other person wanting to fish. There is also a meeting to start the year that includes events for students to learn from. And at the end of the year we have a team party, typically a bowling event, for all to gather and for year end prizes to be awarded.
  • Do I need to pay to enter the tournaments?
    No, your membership entry fee covers all SabreStorm team and virtual tournaments. For non SabreStorm team tournaments there maybe costs to enter events.
  • How do I enter fish that I caught during tournaments?
    Sabre Storm Fishing Team utilizes a fishing app called “fish donkey”. It is a free app that can be downloaded to your device. All fish will be entered into that app and are entered by length, not weight.
  • What is the SabreStorm Fishing Club All About?
    SabreStorm Fishing is a club for students in the Sartell/St. Stephen or Sauk Rapids/Rice District who are interested in learning and enjoying the sport of fishing. Run by a group of volunteers, our goal is to introduce kids to fishing and allow them to learn from experienced anglers in a supportive environment. We also offer opportunities for students who want to fish competitively and participate in fishing tournaments. At SabreStorm Fishing, we believe that fishing is an excellent way for students to connect with nature, learn new skills, and build lasting relationships; all while learning to be stewards of the outdoors.
  • Is this a competitive fishing team?
    Yes and no. Team members can be as competitive as they would like with varying opportunities provided by the team and other tournaments outside of the team.
  • Who can signup for the team?
    Students in grades 6th - 12th at the time of registration and live and or go to school in the Sartell/St. Stephen or Sauk Rapids/Rice District are eligible.
  • Do I need a boat to be on the team?
    No, the Sabre Storm Fishing Team has some great boat captain volunteers and we do everything we can to make sure everyone can fish from a boat who wants to. You may also fish from shore at the area lakes and rivers around us. Several virtual tournaments have been won from shore fishing.
  • Who do I contact with questions about the SabreStorm Fishing Team?
    You can email the leadership team at Sabrestormfishingteam@gmail.com. Each tournament will have a tournament director listed along with their contact number when the tournament details are emailed out. Feel free to reach out with ANY questions.
  • Who do I contact if I need a fishing partner or boat captain?
    Every team event will have a contact person for that tournament. Most correspondents will be done by email. Make sure your email is updated. You can also reach out to the fishing team leadership team if you have further questions.
  • Do team members have to participate in every event?
    No, they can pick and choose what tournaments work for them.
